On July 17, 2025, I had the privilege of attending the official signing ceremony between Marriott International and TSM Global, where they announced their partnership to transform the iconic Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur into the future Petaling Jaya Marriott Hotel.
Held in a setting filled with quiet excitement and strategic vision, the event brought together key players from both hospitality and investment sectors. The highlight was the signing moment itself — a symbolic step toward Marriott’s bold expansion into Malaysia’s urban core, specifically Petaling Jaya, a city I know and love for its pulse, diversity, and energy.
The conversion marks a significant milestone not just for Marriott’s regional strategy, but also for Petaling Jaya’s evolution into a luxury lifestyle and business destination. Scheduled for a phased transformation, the 393-room property will carry the hallmark of Marriott’s signature Wonderful Hospitality™, reimagined through modern design and elevated service.
This won’t be just another hotel. Once renovations are complete by end-2026, guests can look forward to premium offerings such as the M Club Lounge for Elite members, a brand-new Chinese restaurant, and a Kids Club — clearly signaling that the hotel is designed to cater to both global travellers and local families seeking upscale staycations or meaningful gatherings.

The hotel’s strategic location makes it a gem — nestled along the SPRINT Highway, beside the prestigious Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC), and just a short walk from Phileo Damansara MRT. As someone who’s always on the go between meetings, press events, and family time, I personally value that level of accessibility. It’s also within 15 minutes of KL Sentral, offering direct links to KLIA, and surrounded by retail giants like Mid Valley, The Gardens, and 1 Utama.
During the ceremony, I caught up with Lim Tze Thean, CEO of TSM Global, who shared his vision of reshaping Malaysia’s hospitality scene through long-term, sustainable investments. He noted how this partnership reflects TSM’s shift into the hospitality space, aligned with global standards yet rooted in local values.
Representing Marriott International was Andree Susilo, Vice President of Hotel Development – Asia Pacific (excluding China). He expressed confidence in Malaysia’s tourism trajectory, especially with Marriott’s portfolio already exceeding 60 hotels across 20 brands in the country. Andree emphasized that Marriott’s conversion-friendly strategy allows owners to tap into global demand while retaining unique local flavor — a synergy that I believe resonates well with the Malaysian market.
