KUALA LUMPUR, 10 June 2025 — The moment I stepped into Ben’s Independent Grocer (B.I.G.) at Publika, it felt like I had entered a charming piazza somewhere in Italy—minus the airfare. “Make It Authentically, Make It Italian” wasn’t just an event; it was an immersive celebration of all things Italian, from the scent of freshly brewed illy coffee to the glistening cheese wheel waiting to meet pasta perfection.
Organised by The Food Purveyor (TFP) in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in Kuala Lumpur and the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), this event brought together not just foodies and gourmets, but also dreamers like me—those of us who believe every dish tells a story of tradition, heritage, and love.

The highlight of the day? An unforgettable live cooking demo by none other than Italian chef Stefano Criber. With the flair and finesse that only a true Italian culinary artist can bring, he prepared fresh pasta right inside a traditional cheese wheel, sending aromatic steam into the air that made heads turn and phones come out instantly for Insta-worthy moments.
It wasn’t just about the visuals—it was a full sensory experience. We sampled velvety homemade pasta, zesty salads bursting with freshness, and classic Tiramisù that transported us straight to a rustic Italian café. The creamy scoops of Fabbri gelato and the bold aroma of complimentary illy espresso truly rounded off this culinary passport to Italy.
Dr. Angela Donvito, the ever-elegant Trade Commissioner of the Italian Trade Agency, graced the event and reminded us all why “Made in Italy” isn’t just a label—it’s a legacy. “Our culinary heritage and the exceptional quality of Italian products are a great source of pride for all Italians,” she said, beaming with warmth and authenticity.
TFP’s Group Executive Director, Mr. Ivan Tan, echoed her sentiments. He shared how collaborations like this bring more than just imported goods to Malaysian shelves—they bring culture, experience, and connection. “At The Food Purveyor, our philosophy is that food is a powerful link to heritage, tradition, and community,” he said. And honestly, that philosophy was palpable in every bite and every smile exchanged during the event.

What truly stood out to me was the meticulous attention to detail. The product displays were nothing short of a curated art gallery—bottles of authentic Italian olive oils, artisan pastas, gourmet sauces, and delicacies that told silent stories of sun-drenched countrysides and generations-old family recipes.
But more than that, it was the energy. A kind of joyful reverence, where strangers bonded over tasting samples and laughter floated above clinking cutlery. It reminded me why I love writing for 1319 Media—because we celebrate the real moments, the ones you can taste, touch, and treasure.
This collaboration between The Italian Trade Agency and The Food Purveyor is more than just a one-day event—it’s a movement to bring authentic Italian craftsmanship into our everyday lives. You can now find these premium “Made in Italy” products at Village Grocer, B.I.G., The Food Merchant, and BSC Fine Foods, so yes, la dolce vita is officially within reach.
If you’ve ever dreamed of hosting your own Italian night at home—complete with pasta, wine, and a pinch of romance—now’s your chance. Head over to these grocers and let Italy come to you.
Until next time, buon appetito, Malaysia 🇮🇹❤️🇲🇾
